Ayushya Homa is performed to appease Ayur Devatha, the God of life, to enhance longevity. The evil effects caused by tithi (day of the fortnightly), vara (day of the week) and nakshatra (star) are eliminated by performing the homa.
Sage Bodhayana, in his Bodhayana sutras, explains about ‘Ayushya Homa'.
The homa is usually done on the birth date of the person. It can be performed on a monthly basis to attain good health for a child suffering from constant illness.
