Perched at an altitude of 10,459 ft, Astangas is a small settlement in the northern part of Kargil District. It is about 161 km from Srinagar – the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Chhutumel in the west, Phikar in the north, Tumel in the east and Buruqqu in the south, encircle Astangas from the four directions. This hilly area is ideal for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Astangas can be reached easily from Samar. The nearest railhead is at Jammu and the airport is at Leh.
