Astami Snan Mela

Astami Snan Mela is a popular festival celebrated at Ambari village, in Coochbehar District. It usually falls in the Chaitra month (in March) of Bengali calendar. Every year on this occasion thousands of people gather on the banks of Gadadhar River to take this holy dip. It is believed that a dip in the river on the Shukla Astami day of the Chaitra month will relieve one from his vice and attend Brahmapad.

Astami Snan Mela is believed to be the most ancient one. The fair also takes place at Kalighat adjacent to Sitalkuchi town.
