Aiyaarappar Temple



Aiyaarappar Temple is situated at Tiruvaiyaru, 11 km away from Thanjavur. Covering an area of about 15 acres, the temple has a 7 tiered Rajagopuram and 5 prakarams. The temple contains separate shrines for Somaskandar, Sivayoga Dakshinamurthy and Darmasamvardhini Amman. The Shivlinga here is similar to that of Tiruvarur. There are spots in this temple to echo nada brahma, the primordial sound. The temple has several mandapams and sculpted images.

Inscriptions of Chola and Pandya kings are preserved in this temple. The main festival is the annual Brahmotsavam celebrated in the months of March-April. Other festivals include the float festival on Aavani Moolam and Appar festival in the months of July and August.
