Adirampattinam (also known as Adirai) is a coastal town on the east coast of South India, located 60 km from Thanjavur. This scenic town got its name from the Pandian King Adi Veera Rama Pandian who ruled the south in the 2nd century.
Adirampattinam, once known as Selli Nagar, was a busy port when the Chola and Pandyan dynasties ruled the waves and sea borne trade with Sri Lanka and Burma. This town is enriched with plentiful acres of coconut groves and paddy fields irrigated year round by monsoon rains and canal systems from the Cauvery River. People of Adirampattinam are generally engaged in businesses in Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Tuticorin and some in the foreign countries. Chekkadi Mosque, Vandipettai Mosque, Mariyamman koil and Perumal koil are situated nearby. Manora, famous for an eight story victory tower built by the Maratha King Serfoji, is located 15 km from Adirampattinam.
