Abhishek is the holy ritualistic bathing of an idol using water (jalabhishek), milk (ksheerabhishek), ghee (neiabhishek), sandal paste (kalabhabhishek) or other special substances. It is done preparatory to a
puja.
A major abhishek is the Panchamritabhishekam - the Abishek performed of milk, butter, ghee, honey, sugar and tender coconut water. Kanakabhishek, Kumbhabhishek are some special abhisheks.
