Nainital District of Uttaranchal is a glittering jewel in the Himalayas, blessed with scenic natural splendor and varied natural resources. It lies in the Kumaon division. The total geographical area is around 3500 sq km. The highest peak is Baudhansthali and the foothill area is known as Bhabhar. Hindi, Kumaoni and English are the commonly used languages. The Kosi is the main river. The hilly areas experience snowfall during winters, while in the plains the temperature soars to 45°C during summers.

The fairs and festivals include vasanth panchami, Shivratri, Holi, Samvatsar Parwa, Ram Navami, Dussehra, Batsavitri, Rakshabandhan, Janmashtami, Nandastmi, and Deepavali. The major tourist destinations are Haldwani, Kaladhungi, Ramnagar, Bhowali, Ramgarh, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal, Naini Lake and Naukuchiatal. Neem Karoli Baba Ashram and Gadhan Kunkyop Ling Gompa are also worth visiting. The nearest airport is at Pant Nagar. Kathgodam Railway Station is the terminus of broad gauge line, linking the district headquarters Nainital with Delhi and Howrah.
