Gwaldam

Gwaldam, at 6,000 ft above sea level, is a Himalayan village about 22 km from Baijnath, the site which houses several ancient temples. Gwaldam is an ideal base camp for trekking in the Himalayan region. It is also one of the best places to view the Himalayan ranges. Gwaldam is a small market town surrounded by beautiful apple orchards. The river Pindari flows through this region. Enroute to Gwaldam one can have a splendid view of the Trishul Peak, and thick pines set against the backdrop of the Himalayas.

The road extending from Gwaldam winds its way through dense forests and terraced fields dotted with rustic cottages of the small towns Tharali and Narain Bagar, to meet the Ranikhet-Pandukhal road at a place called Simli, which is 8 km short of Karnaprayag.

Gwaldam is 30 km away from Kausani, one of the most unspoilt regions in Uttaranchal. Jolly Grant Airport at 263 km, is the nearest airport and the closest railway station is Rishikesh Railway station. Buses are available from Dehradun, Kotwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, and Dharchula. The best time to visit is May, June, September and October.
