Chakrata, 7,000 ft high, is a hill locked place in Dehradun District
. It is 92 km from Dehradun
and 73 km from Mussoorie
. Chakrata was once a cantonment town in British India.
The area is encircled by dense forest, which is dotted with the village of Jaunsar-Bawar. Animals such as spotted dear, wild fowl and panther can be found here. Mundali, which is an ideal spot for trekking and skiing, is on the northern slopes of Chakrata.
