A popular pilgrim spot, Maghar enshrines the cenotaph of Kabirdas, a great saint poet of the medieval period. This shrine is visited by both Hindus and Muslims.
Khalilabad is 7 km north-west to the Maghar. Balusasan and Baghnagar to the north, Pipra to the east and Budhat to the south are the other nearby towns and cities.

National Highway 28 passes through Maghar. Maghar Railway Station serves the town.
