Kanpur



Kanpur, the biggest city of Uttar Pradesh, is situated on the banks Ganges. The commercial capital of the state, it was formerly known as the Manchester of India. Kanpur, headquarters of Kanpur Nagar District, is 70 km southwest of Lucknow.

Steeped in history, Kanpur is the birthplace of Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi and Shyam Lal Gupta, the poet of the famous song \"Jhanda Uncha Rahe hamara\". The major attractions at Kanpur are General Sir Hugh Wheeler\'s entrenchment ( 1 km from Kanpur Central Railway Station), All Souls\' Memorial Church, the large zoo at Allen Park, Gautam Buddha Park, Moti Jheel, Buddha Vihara and JK temple. Monuments of the time of King Yayati can be seen at Jajmau. Gurdwara Banno Sahib at Kanpur has a 350-year-old manuscript of Guru Granth Sahib. There are also four temples dedicated to Lord Shiva at Kanpur. Bithoor and Kannauj are nearby attractions.

The National Highways 2 and 25 passes through Kanpur and National Highway 86 originates at Kanpur. It also has a railway station on the New Delhi-Howrah line. Kanpur Airport has daily flights to Lucknow.
