Dhrupad is the most ancient of Hindustani classical music styles. It is a compositional form having its padas or words in a well-knit and definite structure. The heyday of the Dhrupad form of music was the times of the great Mughals. Starting around the 15th century, the Dhrupad style of music spread all over North India. By the 17th century, Dhrupad came to represent Hindustani classical music.
