St John De Britto Catholic Church

St John De Britto Catholic Church is located at Oriyur in Ramanathapuram District. St John de Britto, a Portugese Jesuit was martyred here in 1693. People believe that the sand dune of this place turned red after the Saint’s death. Devotees claim to be cured of incurable diseases after applying the red sand on their bodies. This phenomenon attracts devotees to this shrine.
