Ayannar, built around 300 years ago, is one of the significant shrines in Madurai of Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is Ayannar, who is worshipped as a protective deity. The devotees make votive offerings in the form of terra cotta horses. A number of colorfully painted giant figures can be seen here.
