Buckingham Canal

Buckingham Canal, built in 1806, is a salt water navigation canal along the Coromandel Coast. It has a total length of 420 km of which 163 km is in Tamil Nadu and the remaining 257 km in Andhra Pradesh. Araniar River, Korataliyur River, Otteri Nullah, Cooum River, Adyar River and Palar River are connected with this canal.

It was once used for carrying goods such as fire wood, salt and lime shell through country boats. Now the canal is polluted due to sewage and trade effluents from various industries and pumping stations.
