Lachung, a small village situated at an altitude of 8,838 ft, is around 6 hrs drive from Gangtok. With a unique local self-governing body called the Zumsa, it provides the base for an exploration of Yumthang. The Lachung Monastery is a focal point of all religious function of the local inhabitants. By visiting the monastery you will get a glimpse of the religious functions performed by the inhabitants, on auspicious occasions.
