Vedvyas is a sacred place, located nine kilometers from Rourkela
, on the confluence of the rivers Saraswati
, Shankha and Koel
. According to a local legend, it is the birthplace of Veda Vyasa
, the author of epic, Mahabharata
. One can distinguish each of the three rivers at the confluence by the three different colors of the water-streams. There are three temples on the confluence. The main attraction of this place is Vyas Cave - the place where the sage was born - on an island in the middle of river Shankha. Pilgrims can reach this cave on a boat. Vedvyas is easily accessible from Rourkela.
