Koraput District

Koraput is one of the southern most districts of Orissa. The town of Koraput is the seat of district administration. Koraput District has an area of 8,534 sq km and is home to about 1.2 million people. Koraput falls within the region of cyclonic disturbances in the Bay of Bengal. Forests are of the northern tropical semi-evergreen type. Cereal crops are grown extensively. Large deposits of manganese, mica and graphite are found. Bengali, Hindi and Telugu are also widely spoken besides the native tongue of Oriya.

Nature has showered its bounty on Koraput with untrammeled joy. It abounds in meadows, forests, waterfalls, terraced valleys and darting springs. Deomali, the largest peak in Orissa (5,486 ft), is here. Koraput is also bestowed with the waterfalls of Duduma, Bagra and Khandahati. Other attractions are Jeypore, Gupteswar Temple, Hatipathar, and Sunabeda Mig factory.
