Prithvi Theatre

Prithvi Theatre is a prominent center for showcasing the finest talents in the Indian drama scene. It is situated on Juhu Church Road at Juhu in Mumbai.

Prithvi Theatre is named after the legendary Indian film actor, Prithviraj Kapoor, who had a dream of establishing a theatre that would nurture many amateur theatre groups. Although he could not achieve this dream in his lifetime, his son Shashi Kapoor and daughter-in-law Jennifer Kapoor converted this dream into reality by establishing the Prithvi Theatre on 5th of November 1978.

Since its inception, this 200-seat theater is committed to the development of professional theater. Apart from being a venue for displaying the talents in theater art, it is also witness to numerous projects undertaken to develop and broaden the existing concepts related to theater.

Prithvi Theatre basically functions as a non-profit entity, dependent solely on the sponsorship of similar minded individuals and companies. The theater witnesses over 400 shows a year, featuring the efforts of over 50 groups. The management charges a subsidized rent and additionally provides the necessary technical assistance and facilities. The nominal ticket rates have resulted in a consistent audience attendance rate of over 80 percent of the total seat capacity.

Apart from the regular shows, Prithvi Theatre is also host to the annual Prithvi festival. Featuring some of the finest theater shows played around India, it is considered as one of the important theatre festivals in India.
