Amaravati is a historic pilgrimage center, situated 35 km from Guntur and 70 km from Vijayawada, near the banks of the Krishna River. Formerly known as Dhanyakataka, the ancient capital of Satavahanas, Amaravati is a rich storehouse of ancient Buddhist sculpture. It was one of the four places of Buddhist worship in the country. The major attractions are the Amaravati Museum and a 2000-year old stupa, known for its carved pillars and marble-surfaced dome which is adorned with carvings depicting the life and teachings of the Buddha. Amaravati is also renowned for the Amareswara Temple which is considered as one of the five Pancharama temples.

Amaravati is well connected by bus and there are frequent buses from Guntur. Guntur Junction Railway Station and Vijayawada Junction Railway Station are the nearby railheads. Private transport is also available. The nearest airport is Vijayawada Airport.
