Tikamgarh District



Tikamgarh District is located in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh. It lies on the Bundelkhand plateau between the Jamni, a tributary of the Betwa, and Dhasan rivers. Tikamgarh covers an area of 5,048 sq km and the population is over 1 million.

Tikamgarh had a glorious past as it was earlier ruled by the Mauryas, Sungas, Guptas, Chandellas, Khangras and Bundelas.

About 90 percent of the annual rainfall is received during the south-west monsoon season (June - September), July being the rainiest month. Ahar, an ancient village said to have been populated by Jamalpur Ahars and an important Jain Center; Kundeshwar - famous for Kundadev Mahadev temple; Orchha - a famous religious center of the Hindus known for its religious and cultural heritage; Jatara, Baldeogarh, and Achroo Mata are the popular tourist destinations.
