Satpura National Park

Set up in 1981, Satpura National Park extends over 520 sq km in Hoshangabad District in Madhya Pradesh, near the Bori and Pachmarhi Sanctuaries. It is cradled in the Satpura Range of the Mahadev Hills at an altitude that ranges from 300 to 1352 m. This dense forest of sal, teak and bamboo that spreads out in a quiet rugged terrain of deep valleys, sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, rivulets and waterfalls, is home to a variety of wildlife. This comprise tiger, leopard, barking deer, bison, bear and a rich medley of birds such as hornbill, peafowl, cuckoo, woodpecker, kingfisher, parakeet, owl, cormorant, heron and so on. The vast Tawa reservoir is another highlight.

It is best to visit the park in January-June. Pachmarhi is the nearest town. It is connected by regular buses with Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Nagpur, Pipariya and Chhindwara. Pipariya Railway Station (55 km) is the nearest railhead. Bhopal Airport (210 km) is the nearest airport.
