Mitraniketan is a community based research and experiential learning center which focuses in the farming and non-farming sector. It is considered as a social laboratory for workers and students. The center also provides opportunities for students and other organizations to share their resources and work together on community-based projects to improve the social, environmental, cultural and economic status of the community.

The center runs a school for the socially and economically disadvantaged children, dairy farm, fruit processing unit, silk weaving center, hostels, canteen, tissue culture unit and a rural building center. There is also an indoor-stadium, a well-equipped computer center, well-stocked library and a guesthouse.

Mitraniketan sells handmade foot mats, carved wood products, pottery, incense sticks, bell metal products, agricultural tools, garments, and silk fabrics.

Mitraniketan is located at Vellanad about 25 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. The place can be reached by bus from Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus Station and City Bus Station.
