An ancient fort at the base of the Cantonment Hill, Kottappadi is situated at Kottakkal near the famous Kottakkal Ayurvedic center. Originally constructed by the
Zamorins of
Kozhikode, there are only traces of the old fort left now. The Vettakkorumakan temple and the Shiva temple with the famous murals of Malabar are nearby.
Kottakkal is 12 km southwest of Malappuram. The nearest airport is at Kozhikode(Calicut), 36 km away. The main railway station is at Kozhikode . Malappuram is linked by good roads to several towns in
Kerala, Karnataka and
Tamil Nadu.
