Shri Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple

Shri Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple is an ancient temple centrally located in Mangalore. The literal meaning of the word ‘Sharavu’ is arrow. Legends say that Maharaja Veerabahu of Tuluva region killed a cow with an arrow by mistake. In order to erase the sin, the king installed a Shivlinga which has since then been worshipped as Sharabeshwara. It is also believed that the divine image of Sri Dhashabhuja Mahaganapathy appeared on the southern wall of this sacred temple. There is a temple tank called 'Sharatheertha'. Thousands of devotees arrive here annually during Vinayaka Chaturthi, Deepothsava and Shankasti Chaturthi days. It is also a renowned center for cultural activities such as dance, drama, and Yakshagana.
