Gulbarga Fort



Gulbarga Fort is situated at Gulbarga, about 663 km north of Bangalore in Karnataka. This imposing structure was originally built by Raja Gulchand and later fortified by Ala-ud-din Bahmani. With its huge buildings, mosques, temples, stables, ammunition dumps, carriages, 15 towers, 26 guns and several beautiful courtyards, Gulbarga Fort is an architecture marvel.

The fort had witnessed many fierce battle and suffered many an onslaught. The beautiful mosque, situated within the ramparts of the fort, resembles the great mosque of Cordova in Spain. It is the only one of its kind in the entire country. Several tombs of the Bahmani Sultans can be sighted in the eastern outskirts of the town.

The nearest airport is at Hyderabad (214 km). Gulbarga Railway Station, on the Mumbai-Bangalore main line, is the nearest railhead.
