Sanjak is a town lying about 196 km away from Srinagar, in Kargil District. It is positioned at a height of 3,180 m above sea level. Talma lies to the western part of Sanjak and Kanutse is to the east. Sanjak is connected by Sunnit and Talmahdo in the northern and southern directions respectively. Futu La and Namika La are some of the nearby tourist sites.
By road, Sanjak can be approached on the Drass - Kargil highway. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station and the airport is Srinagar Airport.
