Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh is the administrative headquarters of Chittorgarh District. This old city echoes with the tales of romance and valor unique to the Rajput tradition. A ruined citadel, the imposing forts, graceful palaces and spectacular 'chhatris' where the royal past lives, talk volumes of its eventful past. The city was ravaged three times, each time resulting in the women and children of the city performing Jauhar while their men embraced martyrdom fighting the invaders.

Places of tourist interest include the Chittorgarh fort, Vijay Stambh , Kirti Stambh, Rana Kumbha’s Palace, Padmini’s Palace, Kumbha Shyam Temple, Fateh Prakash Museum and Nehru Park. Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary, Sita Mata Sanctuary, Sanwariyaji Temple (40 km), Matri Kundia Temple (50 km) and Bijalpur (40 km) constitute enchanting excursions.

Nearest airport is at Udaipur (90 km). Regular buses connect Chittorgarh with Delhi (583 km), Mount Abu (297 km), Jaipur (325 km), Indore (325 km) and Ajmer (185 km). Chittorgarh is also a major railway station under the Western Railways.
