Suwa Dance




Suwa Dance is a beautiful folk dance form prevalent in the Sarguja District of Chhattisgarh. The main aim of the dance is to express a heart full thought of young marriageable girls by rendering a heart beating song to a young boy who is also in search of a girl of his worthy. Suwa Dance is also performed to appease the goddess of wealth, who provides wealth to their family.

Suwa Dance is conducted in every house of the village. The songs which accompany the dance carry a very heart touching meaning and it so happens that whenever a marriageable young boy hears the song and watch a young girl dancing he puts a proposal before her parents. The family's consent with the proposal results in the marriage of the concerned parties.
