Rasa Dhatu

Rasa Dhatu (body fluid) is one of the seven Dhatus in the body. ‘Rasa’ is derived from the word 'sara' meaning ‘to move’ and hence rasa means one which moves or circulates continuously.

According to Ayurveda, plasma is a component of Rasa. It is an unctuous fluid with a whitish tinge, slightly heavy and cold. Rasa, which resembles Kapha, is formed from the useful part of food after digestion and absorption. It is significant for the growth and differentiation of cells into various organs and tissues of the body during the embryonic phase.

Rasa dhatu governs the normal functions of all tissues and strengths the sense, motor organs and mind. It also maintains health with optimum weight, ideal state of voice, complexion, zeal, ovum and sperms. This dhatu is again responsible for the feeling of happiness and satisfaction.
