Mukhmalgaon is located in the northern part of Tehri Garhwal District in Uttaranchal. It is near the district’s border with Uttarkashi District and is around 18 km north of Pratapnagar.

Uttarkashi is around 30 km north of Mukhmalgaon. Bhagirathi River has its course through the area. Sem-Mukhem is a sacred spot nearby.
