Uthangarai




Uthangarai (also spelt Uthankarai and Uttangarai) is a taluk headquarters town located 50 km south-east of Krishnagiri, in Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. Situated at an elevation of about 1,003 ft, the town spans over an area of about 17 sq km. Pochampalli is situated in the west, Samalpatti in the north-west, Singarapettai (8 km) in the east and Hanumanthathirtham in the south. Uthangarai is about 10 km from Kunnattur and 81 km from Salem. Nearby attractions include Thally, Krishnagiri Fort, Athiyamankottai, Kelavarapalli Dam, Krishnagiri Dam, Government Museum and Hogenakkal Waterfalls. The nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport at Bangalore (134 km away.) Samalpatti Railway Station serves the town (8 km away.) Uthankarai can be approached from Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Tirupattur by road. National Highway 66 passes through the town.
