Avinashi




Avinashi is a town located at about 40 km from Coimbatore. The word Avinashi means that which is undestroyable. It is famous for temples namely the Avinashi Lingeswarar Temple. Dating back to the 12th century, this is biggest temple in Coimbatore District built by the Cholas. Avinashi is also known as Southern Banaras or Southern Kasi.

Arulmigu Thirumurugananthaswamy Thirukoil is a nearby temple at Poondi. Aravind Eye Hospital is situated on Avinashi Road, the national highway to Salem on the eastern side of Coimbatore. Regular bus services are available from Coimbatore to Avinashi. The nearest rail junction and airport are at Coimbatore.
