Arulmigu Thirumurugananthaswamy Thirukoil




Arulmigu Thirumurugananthaswamy Thirukoil is located at about 5 kilometers from Avinashi, in Thirumurgan Poondi. It lies on the Coimbatore-Tirupur road. The temple belongs to the 9th century. From the epics it is noted that this was the place where Lord Muruga installed a Shivling and worshipped it in order to free himself of the mortal sin of mass killing. It is also said that saint Durvasas planted the Madhavi tree brought from heaven here.

Sundaramurthynayanar composed and sung ten songs here. The Vedapuri festival celebrates this incident. Other main festivals are Maasi Maham, Car Festival, Shashti, Amavasai and Kiruthigai.
