Dharwad




Surrounded by hills and lakes, Dharwad lies east of the Western Ghats and is 420 km north of Bangalore. Together with Hubli - a city 22 km away - Dharwad forms a twin city. A famous educational center, Dharwad houses two renowned universities namely the Karnataka University and the University of Agricultural Sciences.

The Durgadevi temple, Someshwara temple and Mailara Linga temple are the notable landmarks of Dharwad. Venkataramana, Nandi Kola Basavanna, Dattatreya, Ulavi Basavanna are some of the other temples here. The Murugha Mutt and Shankara Mutt are centers of religious activity. The Basel Mission Church is a Christian religious center. The nearby tourist places are: Lakkundi, Annigeri, Bankapura, Dambala and Gadag.

Pedas’, a sweet made out of milk, is a delicacy of Dharwad.

Nearest airport is Hubli Airport. Dharwad Railway Station is on the Hubli-Londa line. National Highway 4 connecting Pune-Bangalore passes through Dharwad.
