Agamani, situated at the distance of about 14 km from
Assam-
West Bengal interstate border, is a town in
Dhubri District of Assam. Perched at an altitude of 187 ft above sea level, the place is 12 km to the south of West Bengal border and 8 km to the north-east of Bangladesh border. Agamani is about 40 km from
Dhubri, the district headquarters.
Agamani is an important place with some historical background. The place derived its name from the word ‘Agoman’, which means arrival. The major attractions in and around Agamani include Satrasal (famous for the historic Ramrai Kuti Satra), Kaldoba and Halakura. Gangadhar River flows through Agamani.
Major festivals celebrated here include Charak Puja, Bash Puja, Bishohari Puja, Hudum Puja and Sonarai Puja. Goalparia loko Geet (folk songs) and Loko Nritya (folk dances) are much popular at Agamani.
New Coochbehar Railway Station serves Agamani. National Highway 31 passes through the town. By road, Agamani is well linked with Guwahati, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Coochbehar and Siliguri.
