Margao




Margao (Madgaon), Goa's second largest city is a bustling commercial center. It was the capital of Salcete province and is densely populated. The presence of Caves of Aquem next to the Chapel of St Sebastian is a measure of the varied history of Margao. Temples, churches and beautiful farming villages provide glimpses of the rich culture in Margao. The city is famous for its ancient cultural heritage and traditions. Margao is a peaceful and pleasant place. The splendid Perreira Braganza and Menezes-Braganza house, regarded as the grandest of Goa's colonial mansions is in Chandor village of Margao. The prime attractions of Margao are Colva Beach and Benaulim Beach. A large garden and a children's park is located here. Holy Spirit Church, the large rectangular Jorge Barreto Park, Chandreshwar Bhutnath Temple and Rachol Seminary are the other interesting sites at Margao.
