Vallimalai

Vallimalai is a historic site, located near Vellore, on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway, in Vellore District, Tamil Nadu. There is a cave on the hillock, which houses the beautiful carved images of Mahavir and Sidhayika Yakshi, which belongs to 9th - 10th centuries. It has been now converted into a shrine of Lord Muruga.

According to legends, Vallimalai is the place where Valli was born and married Muruga.

There are three groups of Jain images at different places. First group has Parshvanath, Adinath, Sruta Devi and Matanga Yakshi. Second group contains Adinath and Mahavir flanked by Matanga and Siddha Yakshi.

Vallimalai exhibits the fine specimen of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Jain relations.
