Vaishali




Vaishali is a pilgrim center situated on the banks of the Gandak River, especially for Buddhists and Jains. This place is closely connected with Buddha and Lord Mahavir, the founders of Buddhism and Jainism respectively. It is the birth place of Lord Mahavir. Lord Buddha spent many years here and delivered his last sermon at Kolhua that lies nearby.

There are a number of historical places and monuments in and around Vaishali, which include the Ashoka Pillar at Kolhua, ancient tanks, Jain Temples, Buddha Stupa I and Buddha Stupa II, Museum, Bawan Pokhar Temple, Coronation tank, Karikatora Temple, Miranji Ka Durgah, Chandra Mukhi Mahadev and Raja Vaishal Ka Ghar.

Vaishali is well-connected by roads and located 56 km from Patna, 36 km from Muzzaffarpur and 35 km from Hajipur. The nearest airport is at Patna and railway station, Hajipur.
