Tiruvaalkoliputrur




Tiruvaalkoliputrur is a delightful shrine, located 16 km from Mayiladuthurai, in Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, known here as Manikka Vannar. There is a separate shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga.

It is believed that Pandavas and Draupadi worshipped Shiva here.

The temple covers an area of about 1.25 acres and has 3 prakarams. The entrance of the inner prakaram is decorated by a magnificent Rajagopuram. There is a Utsava Murti of Vasuki.

The annual festival, celebrated during the month of Vaikasi (May-June), is a major draw. Other festivals celebrated with great religious fervour include Karthigai Deepam, Arudra Darisanam, Pankuni Utram, Aadi Pooram, Navratri, Vinayaka Chaturthi.
