Brahmapureeswarar Temple is located at Tirukkadavur near Mayiladuturai in
Thanjavur district. It is one of the eight Veerata sthalas of
Lord Shiva, the other seven being Tiruvatikai, Tirukkurukkai, Tiruvazhuvur, Tirukkovalur, Tiruppariyalur, Tirukkandiyur and Tiruvirkudi.
Legend has it that Shiva first defeated Brahma and then initiated him into the act of creating the Universe.
