Thulasipaara

Thulasipaara village, which offers great scope for trekking, is located nearly 4 km from Erattayar in Idukki District of Kerala. The village got its name from a Tulsi plant, which once existed on a huge rock. In ancient times the villagers worshipped the plant to escape from natural calamities. The huge rock stands as a testimony to the belief of the villagers, while the plant is no more.

Nalumukku and Chelakkara are two important trekking places here. A journey from the village to Idukki Dam site is a great experience. The entire area is flooded during rainy season. A variety of fishes of different sizes and shapes can be seen in the waters. Food and accommodation are available at Erattayar.

Thulasipaara is easily accessible by road from Ernakulam and Kottayam. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport. Kottayam Railway Station serves the village.
