Talam is located in North Sikkim District and is 36 km north of Mangan.

Talam lies along the western bank of Kalep Chhu. Major tourist destination in the neighborhood is Yumthang Valley, the valley of flowers.

Nearest airport is Civil Enclave Bagdogra. Darjeeling Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
