Mangan




Mangan, the district headquarters of North Sikkim District, is situated 65 km north-west of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Located at an altitude of about 3950 ft above sea level, this place is famous for its monasteries and the exquisite miniature gardens.

Major tourist attractions include the Phodong Monastery (one of the six main monasteries of Sikkim), Yumthang, Chungthang, Phensong Monastery and Mangan Bazaar, which has around fifty odd shops. One can catch the magnificent views of Mount Siniolchu (a cliff of Kanchenjunga) from the Pentok area.

The nearest airport is Civil Enclave Bagdogra at Bagdogra, West Bengal, about 124 km from Gangtok. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the convenient railhead, which is 125 km from Gangtok.
