Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple




Established in the 8th century AD, Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple is well-known center of Shakti worship. It is believed that the temple was made of molten brass. The roofs of the mukhamantapa and the garbhagriha and the pillar of lights are sheltered with copper plates. The 12 ft high image of Goddess Rajarajeshwari is worshipped with the idols of Bhadrakali and Subramanya. Every year a car festival lasting for a month is held. A football tournament is held as an important event of the festival. About 500 persons take part in it. Both these are very popular and attract large crowds of viewers.

This temple is located at Polali, about 72 km from Udupi.
