Sinhagad Fort




Sinhagad Fort, formerly known as Kondana, is a beautiful hill fort located at Sinhagad in Pune District of Maharashtra. Sinhagad is about 24 km south-west of Pune.

Sinhagad Fort literally means the 'Fortress of the Lion'. Perched at an altitude of 1316 m, it is one of the important Maratha forts having a colourful history.

The fort is associated with Tanaji Malusare, Shivaji's trusted general and a close friend. He fought a battle here all alone with the Mughal army and fell dead while fighting.

Samadhi of Rajaram Maharaj, Khadakwasla and Varasgaon dams, Torana Fort and Dev Take are the nearby attractions.

Sinhagad can be accessed from the Pune Bus Station. The nearest railhead is Pune Junction Railway Station.
