Nizamuddin, also known as Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin, was formerly called Ghayaspur. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Delhi and is in the neighbourhood of Mathura road and Lala Lajpat Rai Path. Nizamuddin stretches about 2 km south of the Old Fort area and encompasses many big and small monuments. Majority of the population are Muslims.

The Ghalib Academy, established to honor the Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib, a library, museum, the Jamat Khana mosque, the tomb of Jahanara, and the tomb of Amir Khusro are the important places to visit. In addition to these, the Subz Burg Tomb, Atgah Khan's tomb, Chaunsath Khamba and the Khan-i-Khanan's tomb are some other monuments that attract tourists.

Nizamuddin is an important railhead. The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport.
