Kootagal

Kutagal, an ideal weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Bangalore, is a calm and serene village dotted with unique natural features and historical monuments. Kutagal lies near Ramanagaram, which is on the Bangalore – Mysore road.

Almost all the interesting aspects in this picturesque village are concentrated in and around a hill locally known as Timmappana Betta (Kootagal Betta.) A steep climb through a rock face with carved steps takes you to the top of the hill. It houses the Venkataramana Temple, also known as Thimmappa Temple. Ancient fortifications dot this hillock most of which are concentrated around the temple and on the hillock opposite to the temple. Agasa and Agasagitti rocks on the hill, which narrate the sad tale of two lovers, arrest the eyes of the visitor.

Many springs can be found on the slopes of Kootagal of this the Bana Thirta, Chakra Thirtha and Naidile Thirtha lures the visitor.

A fair is held every Saturday of the month of Shravan, which is attended by people from surrounding villages. Competitions of different rural sports are held during these fairs.
