Kottuvallikkavu Kumbha Bharani




Kottuvallikkavu Kumbha Bharani is a famous festival celebrated at the Kottuvallikkavu Bhagavati temple in Kottuvally village. It is a seven day festival celebrated in February-March. During this festival, a special puja, with a thousand burning wicks, known as 'Aayiramthiri puja' is performed. Kalamezhuthum Pattum are organized on all days. The sword and the foot-trinkets of the goddess are carried by the priest in a ceremonial procession, accompanied by thalappoli performed by a large number of girls. After that, a special ceremony known as 'Pathinetsavam' is performed by the Velan community, the predominant performers of Theyyam in the northern districts of Kerala.
