Kaviyoor Rock Cut Cave Temple

Kaviyoor Rock Cut Cave Temple is an ancient rock-cut temple located at Kaviyoor, on the banks of Manimala River. It was built in the 9th century during the Chera period. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva facing towards west. The temple is also known by the name Kaviyoor Trikkukkudi Cave.

Built in the Pallava style of architecture, the temple is carved on a huge rock that covers four acres of land. It can be approached by a flight of steps made by cutting the rock. The temple has a verandah and an inner sanctum with a 21 ft high shivling.

The figures of Lord Ganesh and mendicant are placed on the northern and southern wings of the sanctum respectively. The inscriptions related to Bhaskara Ravi Varman are seen inside the temple. Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in Kerala, is about 2 km away.

Kaviyoor is about 5 km east of Thiruvalla. The nearest railhead is Thiruvalla Railway Station.
